I met Melitta on Instagram a few weeks ago. She was being super supportive and I also noticed she had a lot of ambitions like makeup. I asked her if I could interview her for my blog and I am very happy she said yes. Melitta is from Hungary but she moved to Belgium and she’s had a lot of big changes in her life which we will talk about in this interview.
Can you tell us some more about yourself?
I’m from Hungary. I am 27 years old. I have lived in Belgium for 7-8 years. I am very loud.
Why did you decide to move to Belgium?
When I was 18, my life had a very bad turn. I worked in a company in Hungary but I didn’t get paid a lot. I went to the Netherlands to find a better life. I met a guy there. We got together and he wanted to move to Belgium. I joined him but later, he wanted to go back to the Netherlands and I stayed here. We are not together anymore. I broke up with him in 2013.
Why did you take a break from Instagram? Why did you decide to do that?
I take Instagram breaks very often. When I go on Instagram, I start to compare myself to other people. I get upset about irrelevant things. I knew it was time for me to stop thinking and feel good again.
Why did you quit your job?
I used to work for a cleaning company. It was ok for me because I had a job and I could pay my rent but I couldn’t save and I couldn’t grow. I just had to start somewhere so it was a good job but after a while, I wanted more. Now I am a freelancer and I have my own company. I quit my job because it didn’t take me where I wanted to go.
What are your goals?
One day, I want to have my own makeup brand. I want to find a way to inspire people but I still don’t know how. I want to give people the confidence that nobody else gives them. I want to be someone. I want to leave my mark on this world and I want to do it with love. I want to inspire people.
What are you doing now to accomplish those goals?
I have started studying to become a health coach. It is hard but I think it’s good. I also work as a massage therapist. I want to help people to better themselves. I also started to do makeup more professionally.
How did you set up your website for makeup bookings?
I am not very smart when it comes to things on the internet. I found out about Wix and I made a website with that. I compared the pricing of other makeup artists and that’s how I made my own price. I did a makeup and hairstyling course and I also just finished another makeup course. In the future, I want to do a special effects makeup course and a drag makeup course. Special effects make up is more for photoshoots and movies and drag makeup is for the drag queens.
Could you tell us something more about your mental health problems?
I didn’t think about me having mental problems. I push people away from me. My mood swings were not just mood swings. Some days I felt super energetic and motivating but other days I felt like laying in bed all day and I wanted to kill myself. My mother has a bipolar disorder so I am now going to check if I have that too because it can be genetic. I already suffer from depression. I also have social anxiety. There are a lot of mental problems you cannot see.
Did you get help?
The first time I got help I was still a teenager. I had a few traumas during my childhood. I went to a therapist. I started to go to someone to talk about my problems. When I came to Belgium, I also talked to someone.
When did you know you needed help?
Last year, towards the end of the year I was feeling down very often. Some days I was just there but I didn’t want to talk to anybody. If I did talk to someone I was incredibly hard to handle and I started fighting with them. Things were getting harder and harder to handle. Getting help really helped me. When you realize something is not ok, even if it seems like something small, you need to look for help. It can always be something more serious.
I saw on YouTube you are doing broke bitch series. Why did you decide to do that?
I used to be really really broke. I wanted to show people how to get out of that situation, how to prioritize what to buy, how you can buy cheaper things… I am still doing the series now.
What are your best tips for students to find a good balance between studying, free time and health?
I haven’t been in school for over 10 years but I think the easiest way is to make a schedule and stick to it. Utilize your free time. A lot of students go to school but after school, they only go out. You need to learn to grow. You need to manage your time the best you can. Find out what is most important and what is less important. Your life will be more easy to manage and your free time will be more enjoyable.
Not an interview I typically do but I really enjoyed it and I loved talking with Melitta. I hope you enjoyed it too!
