Seamore asked me to review their seaweed wraps. In this article, I will tell you what I think!
Seamore is a company that wants to replace certain foods/parts of foods with seaweed. There is a lot of seaweed in the world to feed the growing population and seewead is rich in nutrients. One of the first products Seamore was experimenting with, was pasta.
The macros for one wrap are: 176kcal, 4F, 34C, 6P. The ingredients are (50%!!) Seaweed, wheat flour, Glycerol, Rapeseed oil, Salt, Parsley Flakes, Baking Soda, Potassium and sodium di-phosphates, Sugars, Malic Acid, Citric Acid, Mono- and diglycerides, Potassium Sorbate, Calcium Propanoate, Guar Gum and Methylethylcellulose.
What I did
I ate most of the wraps with smoked salmon, iceberg lettuce and chili sauce. My boyfriend also tried a wrap with some pita leftovers.
I am a real seaweed fan. The first time I ate seaweed as a snack was in Thailand. It was tasty and healthy! I never ate too much of it at once because the taste can be very strong. This wasn’t a problem with the wraps. The taste of seaweed was present but it wasn’t predominant. I compared them to normal wraps and normal wraps have a bit of a salty taste. The seaweed wraps have a salty taste too but it tastes like it comes from the seaweed.
They are less dry than normal wraps.
I took one with me for work and it hadn’t become limp when I ate it for lunch.
I liked the taste more than the normal wraps!
The kcal/100 grams are way lower than normal wraps. A normal wrap contains 315kcal/100 grams and a seaweed wrap contains 252kcal/100 grams.
The ingredients are completely different from normal wraps which are 67% made of wheat flour. I am not an expert but I think the seaweed wraps contain way more nutrients than the normal wraps. Normal wraps are not unhealthy though.
The wraps are bigger than normal wraps. I like to have a smaller wrap so I can maybe eat two or I can eat some yoghurt afterwards.
The calories per wrap are higher than for normal wraps because the seaweed wraps are a bit bigger but like I said, the kcal/100 grams are way lower and to me, that’s what matters.
I also compared the price to the wraps I would normally buy and the wraps from Seamore are more than twice the price of normal wraps.
You can’t find them in my supermarket and I always do as much of my shopping as I can there. I only order things online if I can’t find a substitute for it in the supermarket or if the price is way lower online.
+Tastes better than normal wraps
+Less kcal/100 grams than normal wraps
+Don’t become limp quickly
-Bigger than a normal wrap
-More kcal/wrap (because it’s bigger)
-Not in my supermarket
I am a real fan of these wraps. They are more expensive but I think I would still buy them if I would find them in the supermarket. In general, I think they are better than normal wraps.
